Employment & Skill Development for Visible Minorities
Towards Real Empowerment
At IIMAN Associates, we believe poverty and homelessness alleviation through economic empowerment and income generation for visible minorities. This vision gave birth to New Horizon Social Enterprise—a dynamic, community-driven initiative created to generate sustainable income, promote economic inclusion, and support the vital programs serving refugees, immigrants, and vulnerable populations in our city.
Why New Horizon?
For years, we have relied on donations, small grants and temporary funding to run essential housing, health, and employment programs. But we knew that long-term impact demanded a new approach—one that would reduce dependency and build financial resilience. New Horizon was established with a simple but powerful purpose:
"To use business as a force for good—to generate income while creating jobs, training, and opportunity for those who need it most".
What we Do?
New Horizon operates as a community-focused social enterprise, meaning our business activities serve a greater social mission. Here’s how:
Employment for Marginalized Groups: We offer training and meaningful work for refugees, newcomers, and youth facing barriers to employment.
Revenue for Community Programs: Profits are reinvested directly into programs like transitional housing, mental health support, and skills development.
Culturally Appropriate Services: Our services are shaped by the communities we serve—grounded in dignity, cultural understanding, and respect.
Social Impact with Every Transaction: Whether it's a catering order, cleaning contract, or retail product, customers of New Horizon know their dollar supports a cause.
Our Impacts so Far
Created employment opportunities for justice-involved youth and newcomer women
Funded meals and supplies for refugee families in transition housing
Provided entrepreneurship training to visible minority youth
Launched community programs without relying solely on grants or donations.
Why Social Enterprises Matter in Canada?
Social enterprises play a vital role in Canada by addressing social and economic challenges through sustainable, community-driven solutions. They create meaningful employment for marginalized groups, including newcomers, youth, and individuals facing systemic barriers, while reinvesting profits into services like housing, mental health, and skills training. Unlike traditional charities, social enterprises generate their own income, reducing reliance on grants and promoting long-term impact. As a tool for inclusion, equity, and local empowerment, social enterprises are helping to build stronger, more resilient communities across the country.
