Welcome to IIMAN Associates Canada, a non-profit organization committed to improving the living conditions of visible minorities in the inner city neighborhoods.

We recognize that many individuals and families arrive in our communities carrying stories of struggle, displacement, and resilience. Some face poverty, discrimination, language barriers, or trauma. Others are rebuilding from scratch after fleeing conflict, navigating life as newcomers, or transitioning from systems like foster care or the justice system. But no matter the challenge, we believe in their potential.

We believe:

  • Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

  • Everyone deserves access to meaningful work and the chance to thrive.

  • Everyone deserves health, healing, and connection.

  • Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.

That’s why we deliver holistic, culturally responsive services that uplift people—not just to meet immediate needs, but to support long-term success, independence, and inclusion.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that no one should be left behind—and that when we invest in people, we build stronger, more vibrant, and more just communities for everyone.

The Journey of African Immigrants and Refugees in Edmonton

We recognize that African immigrants and refugees are increasingly settling in Edmonton, seeking safety, opportunity, and a better life for themselves and their families. Whether fleeing conflict, economic hardship, or political instability, many arrive with strength, skills, and the determination to rebuild their lives.

Yet, despite their resilience, African newcomers often face systemic barriers—from navigating unfamiliar systems and language challenges to racism, unemployment, and housing insecurity.

At IIMAN Associates, we are committed to walking alongside these individuals and families as they transition into their new communities. We provide culturally responsive, community-based support to ensure African immigrants and refugees are not only welcomed—but empowered to thrive, lead, and contribute to Edmonton’s social, economic, and cultural life.

“We don’t just welcome newcomers—we build pathways to belonging, opportunity, and dignity.”

We Understand Because We've Lived It

As refugees ourselves, we deeply understand the challenges, fears, and uncertainty that come with starting over in a new country. We know what it feels like to leave behind everything familiar—to search for safety, rebuild a life from nothing, and try to find belonging in a place where the language, culture, and systems are all unfamiliar.

We’ve experienced the struggles of finding housing, employment, and access to healthcare, all while trying to care for our families and heal from past trauma. We know the emotional weight of isolation, the pressure to succeed, and the quiet hope that life will get better.

That’s why we created IIMAN Associates—not just as an organization, but as a community of support and solidarity. Because we know firsthand that navigating life as a newcomer requires more than information—it requires compassion, guidance, and people who understand.

“We are not just helping others—we are walking the same path, together.”
